A classic, reimagined.

Replicating this original early 1900’s door was a welcome project for us. Our long time collaborator and creative force in the stained-glass industry, designer Annahita Hessami, partnered with us once again to remake this beautiful original stained glass — and the results are unparalelled.

Developed from 1904 as part of the Monkhams Estate, Monkham’s Drive is defined by its generous Edwardian villas, where carefully varied facades create a distinctive suburban character. Original details, such as crafted entrance doors, stained and leaded glass, bay windows and decorative joinery, give these homes their enduring identity, with each house carrying its own interpretation of the period.

Similarly to doors seen later in the period, this style is characterised by its nine-square glass panes, curved shelf and long inset door panels, creating a distinctive yet understated look. These elements were replicated with care, respecting the proportions of the door and glass design.

A piece of history

It’s difficult to determine what the orignal colour of this door could have been. Thorugh years of wear and tear, weather conditions, heat and sun exposure, the colour has most liekly faded and desaturated.
Handcrafted

The focal point of the door is undoubtedly its stained glass. Featuring a distinctive organic motif, its design invites interpretation.
A playful design

Here at Beechhall, it has been variously perceived as an apple, though some suggested it resembled an ant’s face.
A well-needed upgrade

At first glance, this door appears to be in surprisingly good condition. However, the realities of an ageing door become apparent in its performance: draughts can enter, security may be compromised, sound insulation is limited, and both functionality and ease of use can suffer over time.
Expert removal

Our joiners have years of experience that guides them when removing an old frame like this one. Where install practices have changes over the years, understanding traditonal intallation methods can be helpful to avoid unexpected facade damage and accidents.

While the installation of your front door can be completed in as little as one to three days, the craftsmanship and preparation behind it is a far more considered process. Over the course of several months, our initial drawings are carefully brought to life, with guidance provided throughout on colour, ironmongery, design details, glass and other door specifications.
The final touches

Ironmongery is the finishing touch to any door. We offer a wide selection of locks, door knobs and knockers in a variety of finishes, with samples available to view at our Hackney Road showroom. Honouring the past

This brand-new door is a considered replica of the original early 1900s design. Our interpretation retains the character and charm of the original, creating an understated, elegant and calming aesthetic on the interior, while introducing a more playful and eye-catching finish to the exterior.
