Monkhams Avenue is home to some of Woodford’s finest period properties, with the Edwardian character of the houses reflected in their proportions, detailing and original joinery.
For this project, we are reinstating the windows and exterior doors throughout the house, beginning with the east wing. This part of the property has been undergoing extensive construction, including a new rear extension that opens out towards the sizeable garden. Our work will bring the traditional window detailing back into the property, complementing the original character while sitting naturally alongside the newly extended spaces.

The exquisite joinery throughout this four-storey home draws the eye at every turn — and it’s important to keep it that way. Beechhall is renowned for taking on heritage projects like this, carefully recreating original design details and century-old character through truly bespoke, handmade joinery. By combining traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques, we’re able to achieve the authentic appearance of period joinery without compromising on performance.
We believe modern functionality should never come at the expense of timeless design. It’s exciting to see a renewed appreciation for timber joinery over the past decade, particularly as more heritage homes across London are being purchased with the intention of restoring and reinstating their original character.
Matching original Shapes.
The unique shouldered-arch window design is a defining feature of the property and contributes significantly to its original architectural character. Retaining and carefully replicating this detail would ensure that the proposed works respect the home’s heritage and preserve its distinctive identity.
Made New, Kept True.
The outdated single-glazed windows were in definite need of an upgrade, with the joints in the casement windows naturally beginning to show signs of wear and tear due to prolonged exposure to the weather.
The replacements would be constructed using our preferred timber, Accoya©, which comes with a 50-year rot guarantee. This specially engineered wood is designed to withstand decades of life. It undergoes an advanced treatment process that significantly improves its resistance to moisture while still allowing the timber to breathe, providing a durable and long-lasting solution.
Fitted right.
This property was still at an early stage of interior finishing, with plasterwork yet to be completed in the east wing. Working closely with the client and their building team, we agreed a timeline that worked around the project’s progress.
At Beechall, we understand that every build has its own schedule. We can work in phases, installing the windows first and returning to complete trims, cills and architraves once the brickwork and plastering are finished. This flexible approach helps protect the windows and trims from damage during ongoing building work, while ensuring a consistent, high-quality finish throughout the property.

With the interior works temporarily on hold, we kept the project moving by progressing with the exterior works, bringing the property as close to completion as possible.
We installed trims to the exterior faces of the windows, neatly meeting the brickwork and sealing any exposed timber. Drip cills were then precisely cut and securely pinned above the windows and external door. Their purpose-built design helps direct rainfall away from the timber, preventing water from sitting on the surface and helping to protect the finish.
