The Railton

Completed: 2018

A colossal project: twenty-nine sash windows, arch replication, multiple size profiles and an unlevelled floor.

Neighbouring Herne Hill rail station, the once dull and inactive Railton road has evolved into a lively destination with bustling cafés, restaurants, and shops. Undergoing a complete facade renovation in 2018, we revisited this project nearly a decade later to observe how the reinstated sash windows have stood the test of time.

The exceptional longevity of these timber windows was determined not only by the quality of their craftsmanship but also by the accuracy and precision of their installation. As the floor levels varied across all four buildings, this project presented some unique challenges. However, our experienced surveyors had the expertise to take precise measurements, ensuring a perfect fit throughout, as evidenced by the results of this project a decade later.

We are delighted to have played a part in the transformation of this South London corner, celebrating the enduring impact of reinstated heritage joinery. We invite you to discover how expertly crafted timber joinery can enhance your property: elevating its character, increasing its kerb appeal and adding lasting value.

Almost 10 years after completion, revisiting Railton road evidences the durability of timber windows. For the past decade, we have witnessed a major resurgence in homeowners abandoning plastic uPVC in favour of natural wood. At Beechhall Joinery, we are happy to be part of a movement that reelects sustainable and traditional craftsmanship – while embracing manufactural advances and practices.
