The Cochrane

Completed: November 2022

The Cochrane is a carefully considered residential project, blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design to enhance both the character and functionality of the home. Set within a classic London streetscape, the property presented an opportunity to retain its period charm while introducing modern performance and refined detailing throughout.

At the heart of the project is a thoughtfully executed renovation, designed to improve the flow of natural light and create a stronger connection between internal living spaces and the surrounding exterior. Subtle architectural interventions allow the home to feel brighter, more open, and better suited to modern living, without compromising its original identity.

A key feature of the scheme is the installation of bespoke timber joinery, including traditional box sash windows crafted to replicate the property’s original proportions and detailing. These are complemented by carefully designed casement windows and a front door that together establish a cohesive and balanced exterior aesthetic.

Each element was manufactured with performance in mind, incorporating modern glazing and materials to improve thermal efficiency, security, and acoustic insulation—ensuring the home meets the demands of contemporary urban living.

Throughout the project, close collaboration with the client allowed for a tailored approach, refining both design and technical details at every stage. This ensured that the final result remained true to the vision while achieving the highest standards of craftsmanship and finish.

The Cochrane stands as a testament to the value of considered design and expert joinery, demonstrating how period properties can be sensitively enhanced to meet modern expectations while preserving the qualities that make them unique.
